LAMARRacing – Autonomous Racing Research and Education at the HRL
LAMARRacing provides a dynamic research and teaching platform for autonomous driving and racing in a realistic, high-speed environment using 1:10-scale autonomous cars.
At the Humanoid Robotics Lab, a dedicated team of students from the Master’s programs in Robotics and Computer Science explores innovative concepts in control, planning, and perception using the RoboRacer platform.
The project’s central idea is to give students the opportunity to develop, implement, and test their own approaches to autonomous racing rapidly and safely.
As part of the international RoboRacer community, LAMARRacing represents the University of Bonn at leading robotics competitions, including CDC 2024 in Milan and ICRA 2025 in Atlanta, with strong and promising results.
At the HRL, the project functions as both a research initiative and an experimental learning environment. Each semester, students participate in a dedicated course where they design, build, and evaluate high-performance racing systems on real vehicles. Through its combination of education, experimentation, and competition, LAMARRacing bridges the gap between theoretical methods and real-world autonomous racing challenges.
